Title: The Rhythm Devils Play River Music
Company: Passport
Catalog: PB--9844
Year: 1980
Country/State: US
Grade (cover/record): VG+ / VG+
Comments: original inner sleeve
If you're looking at this then you already know that 1980's "The Rhythm Devils Play River Music" is incidental music originally composed for Francis Ford Capolla's film "Apocalypse Now". An all instrumental and largely percussive set, this is essentially the film's soundtrack. Written by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Mike Hinton and Brazilian artist Airto Moriera, the eleven tracks are all mildly entertaining, though the album is probably something to be admired more as a technical accomplishment than something you'll want to slap on and boogie to late at night. Having seen the film a couple of times I can attest to the fact that tracks such as 'The Beast', 'Steps' and 'Napalm for Breakfast' (great song title) do a good job of capturing the film's dark and suffocating aura.
