Organic Coastralee Tomato Seeds 10 Count French Heirloom Tomato Lycopersicon esculentum Description: Large, beefsteak type fruits up to 4 inches across. Soft delicious flesh. 82 days to harvest, (Approximate time, varies with location and growing conditions.) Indeterminate. Common Description: Almost all tomatoes are of the Lycopersicon family. (One exception, namely the Ground Tomato (Tomatillo) is not included in this family, but is commonly referred to as a tomato, even though it resembles a tomato, it is a different fruit all together.) All Cherry, Paste, Beefsteak, Canning, Cooking, and other tomatoes fall within this genus). Type: Tomato plants are often differentiated between Indeterminate and Determinate varieties as well as other characteristics. Growers typically choose some determinate varieties to provide a large quantity of ripe tomatoes for canning or making sauces or salsa. They may also choose some Indeterminate varieties to ensure a steady supply of fresh tomatoes throughout the growing season. Determinate tomatoes stop growing once they produce blossoms, and fruit ripens over a short period. Vines of Indeterminate varieties continue to grow and produce fruit throughout the season. Dwarf or patio varieties are stocky plants that fruit throughout the growing season; most produce medium sized fruit. (There is a general rule of thumb that gardeners/growers follow: Staking=indeterminate - Bush=determinate). While this is a generalization, it is true to many types of tomatoes) USDA Zones: Tomatoes will grown in all zones within the United States and Canada. Care must be taken in northern latitudes regarding frost and winter damage. Being an annual, the plant may be turned under or placed into a compost bin for reuse the next season. When growing the tomatoes plant in southern latitudes, care must also be taken to ensure that the plant is not scorched or allowed to become to dry or too wet. Growth Rate: Growth varies between the so-called indeterminate"" and ""determinate"" habits. Cultivars with ""determinate"" (bush type) growth is the most commonly grown field crops for processing or fresh market. The maximum possible height at harvest is 6+ feet (2 m), but usually the crop stops at a height of 4
