The slot of the foot allows the gathering of one piece of fabric while it is being attached to another (ungathered) layer. A ruffle can be made and attached in one operation
The amount of gathering can be adjusted by varying stitch length and needle thread tension
For heavier fabrics, the use of the long stitch or basting stitch will facilitate gathering
Use this foot for gathering , shirring or smocking.
