Here is a dirt brown, lightly pre-worn T-Shirt, size XL that has a graphic on the front of the T-Shirt that says: I DIG MY FARMER within a yellow circle. Around the curve of the circle the words: Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy. On the back of the T-Shirt, a smaller graphic near the neck band that reads: FARM2SCHOOL Local Farms Fresh Food. The T-Shirt measures 25 inches across the chest measured under the arms and from the back of the neck band to the bottom hem is 31 inches making it a comfortable size XL or TIGHT size XXL so please know your size! The T-Shirt is 50% cotton and 50% polyester. NOTE: That is not an orb or stain on the shirt--just a little piece of dust that was caught by my camera.

Our society was built upon the rugged shoulders and stubborn personalities of farmers from around the world. So, it only makes sense that we celebrate their contributions and all that they have provided (and indeed continue to provide) us. Old Farmer’s Day intends to do just this.

Celebrating Old Farmer’s Day can take on a few different forms. This will all depend upon where one lives. For instance, those in the country can actually reenact the ancient methods of farming before the invention of electricity and modern equipment. There may even be local festivals to attend. City dwellers can choose to take a trip to a rural area and visit a local farmer’s market. There is no doubt that the fruits and vegetables encountered alone should make up for the drive!

Due to the fact that farmers have been honored for centuries, the roots of this day are likely to go back just as far.
