Some of the aprons I'm listing now came from an estate in Kansas...the aprons were definitely used...to the point that I may never be able to remove all the stains!!! This one has fared better than most, although it has a bit of thrift about it to point out!
This cute larrge brown and white checked cotton apron is made with a bib top that extends around to the back of the neck and fastens with a snap. The edges are totally trimmed with white rickrack. Although the fabric is soft, there is still a lot of body left in it.
The skirt of the apron has ties in the back, with rickrack trimming both the one pocket and the top of the hem. The top measures 16" from shoulder to waistline and 23-1/2" from the top of waistband to hem. The waistband itself measures 17-1/2" and the sashes are very long, long enough to make a great bow.
The bib on the inside had been turned up to the bodice and left flat using a selvedge edge. There is one place where an odd little cutout had been made. This was used to made the tiny patch in the skirt (see picture)! If this had not been a favorite apron, I doubt that it would have been fixed at all!
I think that a good seamstress could "fix" the "fixed" place if that was desired...or it could be left just as it has survived. It certainly has a lot more kitchen life left in it!
