Black worms are an amazing food for killi fish, discus, livebearers (including guppies, platys and mollies), rainbow fish, tetras and most other community fish. Black worms will help bring out the colours in your fish and even the pickiest eaters will come out for this food. It makes an excellent alternative to frozen foods because it has a much longer shelf life, is much easier to store alongside other dry foods and is cheaper per quantity. These Australian black worm (Lumbriculus variegatus) have been professionally freeze dried at the Australian Black Worms farm where they are bred so that they do not lose any of the goodness in the process. The farm has been breeding and producing black worms since 1991, expanding into production of freeze dried worms more recently. The dried worms go through the same procedure as the worms destined for the live worm trade do, then they are snap frozen into 4 kg blocks before being placed inside the freeze drying machine. After they are dried, they are broken up into individual worms again and then packaged. It takes about 80 gms of live worms to make 10 gms of dried worms. Feeding guide Feed as part of a varied diet: whole as a treat to larger fish or grind into a powder for fry.
