A few years ago, my daughter needed a new hand bag to travel with so this style was created. Here we are, nearly 3 years later and the bag still looks quite nice. We thought others may enjoy this light weight and long wearing shoulder bag as well.
One Of A Kind Cotton Canvas Shoulder Bag / Crossbody Bag is Light Weight and Long-Wearing 9 X 11 inch Brown-Orange-Green with a Removable Fleece Shoulder Cushion and Decorative Top Stitching.
Creating the front flap, I used brown cotton canvas, orange flowered cotton fabric, green ric rac, and decorative top stitching. Stiff interfacing and a layer of the same orange flowers complete the fabric then it's edged with spring green and more decorative top stitching. The flap then has a velcro holding it to the purse front.
This 9 X 11 inch bag is made of sturdy, long-wearing chocolate brown cotton canvas, is fully lined with cream-colored cotton fabric and has two inside pockets (about 7in wide) with decorative top-stitching in a contrasting color and a shoulder strap of brown canvas that is sewn around the base for added support. It also has a 10in x 5.5in pocket on the back. Both the zipper for the main pocket and front pocket open from right to left. Every seam on this bag was stitched multiple times for durability. As you can see from the photo, the main pocket is large enough to hold a large fully packed wallet and a 16.9oz water bottle with plenty of room to spare!
Forming the base is the lining, stiff interfacing, brown cotton canvas then more brown canvas is folded and stitched on reinforcing and supporting the entire base of the bag. A shoulder strap has been fashioned out of the brown canvas and measures about 42 inches.
This bag comes with its own removable tan fleece shoulder cushion for added comfort.
**Testimonial bit: I have been using mine almost every day for the last two and a half years and aside from slight wear (slight fading of the brown body and minute dirt deposits near the strap base), it's still as good as new. That's after having carted it around England and continental Europe while doing field-work and collecting botanic samples for the majority of a year and a half of that time.**
**All fabric was pre-washed before this item was constructed!
**Machine wash and dry although cold delicate cycle is recommended
