This pattern is called "Portrait of Gen. Robert E. Lee - 1865. This pattern was designed for counted cross stitch as a patriotic pattern to commemorate and recall our United States history during the great Civil War.
This is designed from a colorized blank and white photo originally taken by Matthew Brady on April 20, 1865 at Lee's home at 707 E. Franklin St., Richmond, VA.
The pattern would be great stitched for yourself or for someone in your family that was a veteran of the Civil War. You will have a very unique counted cross stitch pattern.
