The species was discovered in 1972 by Alfred Lau in western Mexico (States of Chihuahua and Sonora) around 1,600 m altitude. It grows in mountainous regions with moderate sun exposure.
It is an evergreen, slightly bushy succulent. It forms flat and almost horizontal rosettes up to about 10 cm.
The leaves are glabrous, triangular, about 25 mm, with a gray or bronze color.
The species flowers between May and July. The flowers are the largest and most vivid in the Crassulaceae family.
On a stem of about 10 cm, they form inflorescences with flowers of about 2.5 cm from bright pink to red. The elementary, star-shaped flowers have 5 petals and also bright pink stamens and white anthers.
