Synopsis: From the Preface: In this book I have broken down the work into many steps, so a sail can be tackled progressively. The techniques that give the sail its shape are described, and there is no reason why an amateur with a sewing machine and just a few tools should not be able to make a success of his or her first sail, and then move on to more ambitious sails. Most sailmakers soon find a need to make other things besides sails and I have included some examples, but it will be seen that sailmaking constructions and techniques can be applied to many fabric-covered items needed on or about a yacht. Even the man whose interest is in power rather than sailing cruisers has canvaswork on his ship.
In gathering material for this book I was surprised to find how little has been published before and nearly all that has been published dates from the days of natural fiber sails. Consequently, I hope this new book concerned with modern materials will help a great many readers to understand more about sailmaking and will serve as a guide to them when they start to make their own sails. I hope they find this a very absorbing and worthwhile activity.
Overall Condition: Acceptable: The book has obvious wear and a bit of dampstaining. It has some wear to the cover but its integrity is intact. There is no writing in the margins or underlining and highlighting of text, and there are no missing pages or anything that would compromise the legibility or understanding of the text. See images.
