Synopsis: From the jacket: This collection of photographs of Dr. King documents the drama of moving the Civil Rights Movement from the South into the North. John Tweedle captured an astonishing variety of Dr. King's moods as he moved along Chicago's streets, through slums, onto speaker's platforms, and into churches. Most of these photographs have never been published before.
The editing by Hermene Hartman, who compiled the photographs and commentary, illuminates how the men on both sides of the camera lived out their love of life and passion for justice.
John Tweedle considered himself the "unofficial official visual recorder" of the Civil Rights Movement in Chicago. He photographed Dr. King at every major event during King's visit to that city. Tweedle was the first Black photographer to work for a major metropolitan newspaper, the Chicago Daily News. After the paper's demise in 1978, he joined the staff at City Hall in Chicago as the personal photographer of the mayor, Michael Bilandic. Tweedle served in that position until his untimely death in December 1981.
Overall Condition: Very good: The book does not look new and has been read but is in excellent condition. There is no obvious damage to the cover; the dust jacket is included. There are no missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. It may have very minimal identifying marks on the inside cover as well as very minimal wear and tear. See images.
